I wrote and rewrote this first sentence as I wracked my brain for the “right way” to kick off the first post of this brand new blog. It’s not clever, it’s not punchy, but I figured I’d start with the truth of what actually happened. (I’ll work on the cleverness and punchiness for future posts!)
My plan for this space is to use it as a repository for sharing some of my favorite things and general musings. You will hopefully find some recipes, city gems, and things that will also make it onto your own list of favorites!
Back in 2015, I started Measure and Mix to share easy recipes I made as a new grad entering the workforce in NYC. The busyness of work and life in the city meant that activities requiring extra effort and brainpower (e.g. finding quiet time at home to think and write) were the first things to fall off the stack.
In April of 2020, after a month of spending 24/7 together in our NYC studio, my sister and I packed one carry-on, wore two layers of homemade masks, and got on a near-empty plane bound for LAX. We thought we would be home for at most 2 months, but the months added up to almost 2 whole years.
While at home, my dad and I got into woodworking and home improvement projects, and @thebroadstudio was created as a way for me to not only document our projects but also to connect with others in the blossoming DIY community. (I’ll also admit I was trying to figure out how difficult it would be to get sponsored products and let’s just say it’s hard work!)
Recently I’ve been spending some more time thinking about how I want to spend my time outside of work, and that’s what brought me back to blogging. I’m generally an action-oriented person who likes to “get things done,” but in the midst of crossing things off the list, I haven’t spent enough time thinking about how everything fits together and what I’m trying to work towards. I promise The Broad Studio will have content outside of musings, but I do hope practicing writing will help me articulate my thoughts better generally!
Anyway, thank you in advance for joining me on this journey and I’m looking forward to getting feedback on what types of content you like to read about!
